Heritage (Memorial Day) is a web based project archiving the life and loss of my paternal grandfather, Col, Arthur Thomas Finney. Using photographs, documents, and articles given to me by my uncle, my grandfather’s story is pieced together. By examining these materials the reader/viewer learns of the uncertain circumstances surrounding his plane being shot down in Vietnam and the years that follow. This archive of sorts is all the information I have been give about his life (and my grandmother’s). Through it I consider themes of family, ancestry, storytelling, and more. Omitted are personal letters home to family and the report on identifying his remains, sent at the request of the family.
